Harmony Brigades have a simple format – you learn a set of songs to quartet/competition standard, turn up, and sing them with as many different people as possible. Coloured lanyards for each part make it easy to form quartets, and “dance cards” encourage you to sing with everyone else during the weekend. Sing-throughs and learning support programmes help you to get ready for the brigade and mean that you will have made friends even before you arrive.
Historically Harmony Brigades have used mens-range arrangements, although many of them welcome singers of any and all genders. But those of us with higher voices sometimes yearn to sing our original part. And now we can! Because the UK Treble Harmony Brigade only uses songs arranged in the ladies’ range. And of course we will be still welcoming singers of any and all genders.
